0RBIT is a tabletop artwork that tells you how many people are in space right now. A 50mm cube with a red segment display, custom ESP32 PCB, and battery. It syncs from the cloud and sits on your desk quietly doing its thing. The idea came from getting tired of all the crap news. I just wondered how many people were orbiting above while all the daily madness went on down here, and stumbled upon a fact that has stayed with me ever since. Since the year 2000, there has not been a single moment where the entire human race was together on Earth. An unbroken human presence in space for over 25 years!
The display is intentionally two digits. Because 100 people in space would be a milestone worth witnessing. Will it happen in our lifetime?
